There may come a time in your life when due to ill health or old age you are uable to deal with your financial or personal affairs. It is important to make contingency plans to protect your finances and to ensure that the person dealing with your affairs is a person of your choice.

The protection you need is call a "Lasting Power of Attorney" (LPA). A Property and Affairs LPA is a document in which a person can decide who they would like to deal with their affairs both now (if appropriate) and in the event that they become incapable of making their own decisions. A Personal Welfare LPA is a document in which you can appoint someone to take decisions about your health and welfare in the event that you lose your mental faculties and are unable to make those decisions yourself.

As solicitors, we can help you to prepare your LPA and will ensure that it is in the correct legal form so that your Attorneys can take over your financial or welfare matters when the time comes for them to do so. We will explain to you and your chosen Attorneys what they will have to do.

An LPA is an invaluable safeguard against the debilitating effects of old age to protect your wellbeing and estate management. We recommend that all of our clients should seriously consider making such arrangements.
